“I am seeking geometrical structures,” the Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes has said, “but with freedom of form and imagery taken from different worlds.” These worlds may oppose one another, but they coexist harmoniously in Milhazes’s canvases. Vibrant arabesques and kaleidoscopes in punchy colors hail Brazilian tradition. European techniques are reminiscent of Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. The compositions are geometric and precise, yet project Brazilian alegría. In this show, 10 recent paintings and a large-scale mobile sculpture are on view. —Elena Clavarino
