For Miami Art Basel’s 20th anniversary, over 200 of the most important galleries of modern and contemporary art reunite on the city’s hot shores for “one of the most dynamic, diverse art events in the country,” as The New York Times describes it. The fair opened in 2002, 30 years after the unveiling of its parent fair in Switzerland. Design Miami opened three years later, in 2005, to accommodate requests from dozens of design galleries. By then, the Florida edition of Basel was as fun as it was famous. This December, Basel is back at the Convention Center. Highlights include presentations by David Zwirner (showing Joan Mitchell), Jeffrey Deitch (showing Judy Chicago, Vanessa Beecroft, and others), and Pace (showing Lynda Benglis, Loie Hollowell, and others).
