In 2013, MCH Group, which organizes the global fair Art Basel, was looking to expand its presence into Asia and bought the fair Art HK. Since then, Art Basel Hong Kong has been a spring event. This year, new leadership in “Encounters,” its large-scale sculpture sector, brings a bold vision for how viewers will interact with the works. “Here, visitors can see where the market, the artists’ intentions, and the curatorial vision meet,” said Hirokazu Tokuyama, one of the curators. “It’s a rare opportunity.” This year the fair features 240 galleries from 41 countries, and includes the Asia debut of Zero 10. —Maggie Turner
