May 1 – July 16, 2023

You may not know his name but chances are you’ll recognize one of his distinctive covers for Fortune or The New Yorker or Vanity Fair or Life. It’s Antonio Petruccelli. Born in 1907, Petruccelli started his career in textiles. He then brought those skills to his Art Deco illustrations, working as a freelance illustrator in 1932 after winning several House Beautiful cover contests. From 1933 to 1945, Petruccelli created 24 covers for Fortune magazine, stylish images that capture the engines of urbanity. —Clara Molot
