Ever since his study with the sculptors Peter Dreher and Horst Antes, in the 1960s, Anselm Kiefer has used his craft to search the intangibles—myth, death, memory—for meaning. It’s a quest, he once said, to achieve the “representation of the incomprehensible and the non-representational.” The exhibition “Fallen Angels,” which sees Kiefer’s paintings, sculptures, and installations placed in dialogue with Palazzo Strozzi’s Renaissance marvels, is one of this year’s most anticipated shows. —Elena Clavarino
