Back in the day when E. L. Konigsburg’s From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler was still in fashion, many children dreamed of running away from home and hiding out in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Patrick Bringley understands the sentiment. After working at The New Yorker for years, primarily organizing its annual festival, and grieving the loss of his brother, Bringley found solace as a security guard at the Met. “And so it is there he found his home,” wrote AIR MAIL editor Jim Kelly in his review of Bringley’s 2022 memoir, “among the most beautiful objects in the world and with colleagues whose stories and personalities could easily fill a Metropolitan Museum of People.” Bringley now brings his story to the stage in a production directed by Dominic Dromgoole. —Jeanne Malle
