As exhibition curator Shumon Basar cautions, “Data has taken over everything, it is the building blocks of how we feel, and how we relate to each other.” As terrifying as that notion may be, it’s hard to argue with it. In the day-to-day there’s you navigating your surroundings; but now there’s this other you that exists on devices—in the air—on a platform that’s invisible. How has this technology changed our lives? In 13 striking chapters, 70 artists reflect on the disembodiment of individuals, in the context of beauty, beliefs, work, wealth, and democracy. —E.C.
