Not long into the first episode of A Thousand Blows, comparisons to a similarly violent series, Peaky Blinders, begin to emerge. Both series introduce audiences to worlds rife with danger, crime, and thick British accents, and both were created by the producer and director Steven Knight. In this new Hulu drama, we meet Hezekiah Moscow (Malachi Kirby), a Jamaican man who moves to London in order to work at a zoo. When he learns that his prospective job isn’t what he thought it would be, his need for money leads him to cross paths with Sugar Goodson (Stephen Graham), a greatly respected but hot-headed boxer. The stories of these two men, and the East London underworld that surrounds them, allows Knight to do what he does best: explore character. —Jack Sullivan
