Women and Abstractions in Postwar Americas Symposium

New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts in Manhattan, New York.

June 26–27, 2025
1 E 78th St, New York, NY 10075

New York University has a hidden gem tucked away on the Upper East Side, just a block from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s the Institute of Fine Arts, a graduate and research center housed within a classical French mansion on 78th Street. The I.F.A., as it’s commonly known, regularly hosts lectures on art, art history, and conservation that are open to the public. At the end of June the institute is holding a two-day symposium titled “Women and Abstractions in Postwar Americas,” which explores the impact women have had on geometric abstraction in modern art. The symposium features 12 presenters, a diverse array hailing from museums and universities all over the world. The keynote speaker is Mónica Amor, a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art. —Hannah Gross
