Ugo Rondinone takes the ordinary and makes it colorful, daring, and distorted. Rondinone is best known for his “Rocks” sculptures, brightly painted rocks in vertical stacks, inspired by natural geological formations. The Swiss artist, born in 1964, specializes in the exploration of dualities: day and night, euphoria and depression, the authentic and the artificial. Schirn Frankfurt presents Rondinone’s works from the past 30 years, inviting viewers into his immersive multimedia pieces. —Thalia Bonas
