The website of the art center and sculpture park Tippet Rise, located between Billings and Bozeman a few hours north of Yellowstone Park, isn’t where you might be looking for it. “Please follow your GPS,” the traveler is told, “and not where the pin is dropped on Google Maps.” This is Big Sky hiking and biking territory, affording visitors an exhilarating experience of monumental objects in unbounded landscapes. New York devotees of Alexander Calder, Anthony Caro, Mark di Suvero, Louise Nevelson et al. may flash on Storm King, the outdoor museum near New Windsor, 60 miles due north of the city. The five summer weekends of chamber-music recitals that Tippet Rise has organized at the Olivier Music Barn and other venues will feel congenial, too; the talent and repertory (including commissions and premieres) would do honor to Lincoln Center and the chamber venues at Carnegie Hall. Small wonder the tickets, assigned by lottery, are all gone. But never discount the possibility of no-shows and last-minute returns. —Matthew Gurewitsch
