No one has explained the 2008 housing financial crisis in more vivid detail than Michael Lewis. His best-selling book The Big Short, though told from the point of view of those who bet against the housing market and ended up winning, shed light on the Wall Street “Masters of the Universe” who pricked the bubble and made it burst. The author revisits his 320-page book and the subsequent Adam McKay movie (starring Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Jeremy Strong) in a new podcast co-hosted with Lidia Jean Kott. They also call up journalists, economists, historians, and the hedge fund posse that inspired the book’s characters. “Why am I bringing this story back now?,” Lewis asks. “I think there is a lot more we can learn from this event.” —Carolina de Armas
