It’s crazy to think that Terry Gross began hosting Fresh Air in 1975, and not just because it’s rare for anyone to keep the same job for 50 years. Gross’s career is especially impressive given that she’s stuck to the radio business through the rise of podcasts as well as the myriad interview series that answer the world’s increasing obsession with celebrity. Call Her Daddy, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, The Run Through with Vogue—the list goes on. Sadly, many of these shows sacrifice authenticity for access, with publicists watching every word. Sam Fragoso is a rare exception. Since 2016, he’s recorded conversations with all kinds of well-known figures, whether it be Gloria Steinem, Gwyneth Paltrow, David Lynch, or Gross herself.
