Sol LeWitt’s full name is Solomon. His parent were Russian Jewish immigrants and he was born in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1928. In 1953, after having served in the Korean War, the 25-year-old LeWitt moved to New York City and set up a studio in the Ashkenazi settlement on Hester Street. By the 1960s, he was a leading pioneer of Minimalism and Conceptual Art. This exhibition pays particular attention to LeWitt’s ties to his Jewish ancestry, and also looks at his attraction to Brussels and the Belgian art scene. —Elena Clavarino
