Sarah Lucas

Sarah Lucas, Self-Portrait with Fried Eggs, 1996.

Oct 10, 2025 – Mar 1, 2026
Mannerheiminaukio 2, 00100 Helsinki, Finland

Sarah Lucas makes metaphors out of junk. Literally. Bananas are penises, melons are boobs, and a toilet or a pack of cigarettes can represent sexuality and manhood. “I think art should be amateur,” Lucas has said. “It should be done for love.” Nevertheless, her satirical tweaks of the art establishment have brought international acclaim, placing her alongside British contemporaries Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst. This retrospective features her subversive sculptures, satirical installations, and more. It’s Lucas’s first large-scale exhibition in Scandinavia. —Elena Clavarino
