Even rabbis have to start somewhere. In this new French miniseries, a young woman named Léa (Elsa Guedj) returns to her hometown to begin her career. She’s nervous—but, then again, who wouldn’t be? Over the show’s eight episodes, Léa is asked to do a bris, a bar mitzvah, a wedding, a funeral, and a shiva, all while navigating skepticism from her family, who question not only the legitimacy of a female rabbi but the relevance of religion itself. Amid the chaos, Léa forms a bond with Arié (Lionel Dray), a fellow rabbi whose views on faith clash with her own. Their connection is romantic, intellectual, and passionate, but it’s also fraught with disagreement and betrayal. There are a lot of doubts in Léa’s life, and we’re invited along to see how, or if, they can be resolved. —Jeanne Malle
