Perhaps a bit late in the day, Pop art has arrived in India. This winter, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Culture Centre is hosting the country’s first museum exhibition of works by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, and many others. Curator Lawrence Van Hagen traces the genre through the lens of three central themes: fame, love, and power. The exhibition, which takes up three floors of the NMACC’s Art House, also investigates the formation and elevation of Pop art as a product of—and reaction to—the dominant social culture of the 1950s and 60s.
