“Since Thornton Wilder wrote Our Town in 1938,” Kate Wyver wrote recently in The Guardian, “it is said that not a day has passed when the Pulitzer prize-winning show hasn’t been performed.” A gorgeous work of art with philosophical underpinnings, set in the fictional American town of Grover’s Corners, the play now returns to the West End. Michael Sheen (who played Tony Blair in The Queen) stars as the stage manager in a production that premiered last month in Swansea, Wales, and now marks the London launch of the Welsh National Theatre, a company founded and financed by Sheen himself. The Welsh director Francesca Goodridge has directed the show, and the cast performs in Welsh accents. “It is about the details you miss, the things you forget to pay attention to,” writes Wyver, “but which collectively make up a life worth living.” —Jeanne Malle
