The Kyoto Costume Institute has one of the world’s great costume collections. Recently, we’ve seen pieces from the Institute in a traveling show on the kimono—gems that have included a 1923 Vionnet sheath created from T-shaped (kimono-shaped!) pieces of gold and silver lamé. There are eight elegant slide shows to choose from on this website, and “Japonism in Fashion” is standout. —L.J.
