Meet Me in the Bathroom

Hedi Slimane, for Meet Me in the Bathroom.

The Strokes released Meet Me in the Bathroom in October of 2003. It was part of their second album, “Room on Fire,” which soon became number four on the billboards nationwide. The decade was defined by young rascals like The Strokes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and LCD Soundsystem, who made indie rock the soundtrack of city life. In a new documentary directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, based on Lizzy Goodman’s hit 2017 oral history—also titled Meet Me in the Bathroom—archival footage, interviews, and photos take viewers back to New York when it was still reeling from 9/11. Highlights are photographs by Hedi Slimane, who was at the helm of Dior Homme at the time and as is now the image director at Celine. —Elena Clavarino
