At the opera, Maurice Maeterlinck is best known as the author of Pelléas et Mélisande, the play upon which Debussy based his mysterious opera of the same name. But this Symbolist playwright wrote other dreamscapes, among them “three little dramas for marionettes.” La Monnaie has asked the composer Benjamin Attahir for an opera based on these puppet plays. The commission, highly intriguing, is called Le Silence des Ombres (The Silence of Shadows). —L.J.
