Since her days in the 1990s Chelsea art scene, Julie Evans has been painting abstract interpretations of natural phenomena—from creeks and flowers to “radial spores” and “cosmic eggs.” Her fascination with what she calls “these interrelated systems of nature here on Earth and on our Sun” has inspired her recent venture into sculpture. Like her work on paper and canvas, Evans’s new ceramic pieces blur the line between the natural and the abstract. She uses vivid colors and vast detail, the latter inspired by a lifelong fascination with Indian miniatures. This solo retrospective in Boca Raton explores the use of form and shape in Evans’s transition from two- to three-dimensional art. —Lucy Horowitz
