“My obsession with the hidden meaning of flowers, and with their symbolism,” says the artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, “is not only a key to reading old paintings, it is also a way of looking at the world—and an expression of my desire to see the marvels that surround us.” Othoniel, whose work has graced the walls of the Louvre, the Centre Pompidou, and MOCA in Miami, continues his exploration of nature and metamorphosis in “Wild Rosebuds.” Working with his signature mirrored steel balls, and also ink on canvas, he focuses on the chrysanthemum and the rose as representations of beauty and impermanence. —Ariella Paradise
