Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret

A victim, known as Clara, and Leto.

Last year, nine women spoke to AIR MAIL senior editor Elena Clavarino about their experiences with the actor Jared Leto, who inappropriately pursued them. At the time, some of them were underage. They detailed accounts of unwanted sexual phone calls, and instances when Leto non-consensually exposed himself to them. While the 54-year-old actor denied the allegations, instead turning the focus to his career, more have mounted against him. A new BBC documentary expands on Clavarino’s initial reporting, counting over 120 allegations against Leto and spotlighting the stories of the four brave women—Isabel, Alex, Clara, and Etta—who accused Leto of criminal sexual conduct. The offenses took place when they were teenagers. A number of accounts are corroborated by family, friends, photographs, as well as two men who worked with Leto’s band, 30 Seconds to Mars. At first, Leto was quick to deny the claims. Now, as they grow, he’s become silent. —Maggie Turner
