Coming to the Met on the heels of its first ever U.K. exhibition is the work of the fin-de-siècle Swiss painter and print-maker Félix Vallotton. Although Vallotton moved through a number of styles, it is his paintings and woodcuts of couples in rooms that command attention. Fully clothed, these twosomes are caught in postures suggesting trespass, or a relationship transactional in nature. But who holds the power? We’re never quite sure. —L.J.
