The word “diva” relates to “goddess” or “deity” or “divine one.” This is why it’s so often applied to stars of stage and screen. They not only attract the spotlight, they beam a unique form of energy into the crowd. This exhibition, with 250 objects drawn from V&A holdings, looks at divas of film, fashion, photography, design, and music—figures of collective memory. Highlights include Elton John’s powdered wig from his 50th birthday celebration; Janelle Monae’s pink vagina pants, designed by Duran Lantink; and a Warhol screenprint of Marilyn Monroe. —Elena Clavarino
