Even though David Magee was born and raised in Cork, a big city in the south of Ireland, the photographer has always been drawn to nature. Magee’s preferred subjects are icy waters inhospitable to boats; sprawling, empty beaches; and forests populated by trees only. “My aim is to provide an antidote to the world we now inhabit,” he has said, “a world of excess, over-branding and mass production.” Magee’s latest solo exhibition highlights 32 photos taken between 2015 and 2020, in locations from Ireland to Sri Lanka. —Jensen Davis
