During the first days of lockdown, sitting in an old chateau in Normandy, David Hockney sketched a bunch of hopeful daffodils on his iPad. He titled the drawing Do Remember They Can’t Cancel Spring, and sent it out to close friends via email. The overwhelmingly positive reception was encouraging, and in the following months he sent more colorful drawings every day, until they numbered in the 100s. In 2021, Hockney took to his iPad again, to make painstaking paintings. Spread across five galleries, this exhibition focuses on Hockney’s solitary vision of last year’s changing seasons and landscapes. —Elena Clavarino
