“I set out to bring down stars from the sky, then, for fear of ridicule, I stop and pick little flowers of eloquence,” says Cyrano de Bergerac in Edmond Rostand’s 19th-century play, titled for the protagonist. Cyrano is a poet and skilled duelist. But he has an Achille’s heel, so to speak—an extremely large nose. Our hero, now played by James McAvoy, reunites with director Jamie Llyod in the West End after their acclaimed run of Macbeth. —C.J.F.
