Clyde’s, a new play from Lynn Nottage, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama, is set at a truck-stop sandwich shop. Staffed by formerly incarcerated people, the workers at Clyde’s often clash with its owner, a callous woman intent on keeping them in her kitchen. The staff finds solidarity in sandwiches—specifically, their dream of creating one that’s perfect. This shared goal proves more difficult to achieve than they imagined. The comedy features Uzo Aduba, back on Broadway after a decade working in film and television—she played “Crazy Eyes” in Orange is the New Black—and Ron Cephas Jones (This is Us). Kate Whoriskey, Nottage’s frequent collaborator, directs. —J.D.
