“To understand what an artist does is to consider the whole of his/her existence,” says the Pasadena-born ceramicist Joan Takayama-Ogawa, who has dedicated a large portion of her work to environmental advocacy. Characterized by their clever and sometimes comical illusions to the growing climate crisis, Takayama-Ogawa’s sculptures grapple with issues of overconsumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and ocean ecology. This exhibition features 30 of her creations, made over the last three decades, and is the first significant survey of her work. —Nyla Gilstrap
