Botticelli to Van Gogh: Masterpieces from the National Gallery

Vincent van Gogh, Long Grass with Butterflies, 1890.

Mar 29 – May 7, 2023
201 Renmin Ave, People's Square, Huangpu, China, 200003

Say “Turner” and certain characteristics leap to mind: luminous paintwork, vibrant color, skies of immense power, and seascapes awash in light. Other master painters in London’s National Gallery provoke similarly instinctive responses. There’s Botticelli, whose delicacy so blissfully informs his ethereal subjects. And Van Gogh, his manic brushwork reverberating with energy. And Titian, whose sensual portraits of women lift them to divinity. While London’s National Gallery is undergoing renovations for its bicentennial next year, 52 masterpieces from its collection are touring Asia. Many are leaving London for the first time. —Elena Clavarino
