There are those who prefer to save heavy movies for the winter months, when the depth of feeling onscreen is as one with shorter days and longer darkness. But not the Paris Theater, which trots out its Bleak Week New York this June. The series features an array of films that “explore the darkest sides of humanity,” including Kelly Reichardt’s poignant road movie Old Joy (2016), Jerry Schatzberg’s grungy Panic in Needle Park (1971), and Stanley Kubrick’s haunting war drama Full Metal Jacket (1987). Directors including Schatzberg and Ari Aster (among others) will introduce films and participate in Q&A sessions after select screenings. —Jack Sullivan
