At last, Art Basel has reached its home base. While the international art fair is known for its glitzy outposts at Miami Beach and Qatar, the fair was conceived in 1970 by three gallerists in the small Swiss town that is its namesake. The inaugural edition brought together 90 leading galleries. This year, there’s over 290, and more than 4,000 artists from five continents. Fifty-six years on, Art Basel continues to expand. The sector “Unlimited” presents projects that transcend the typical art fair setting, offering colossal installations that range from live performances to comprehensive video presentations. —Maggie Turner
