Set within an operating 19th-century antique store, Mariposa’s “Another Man’s Treasure” brings together 17 contemporary artists whose practices transform old stuff into something precious. The exhibition centers around the idea of antique stores as an endpoint or a crossroads where historical objects accumulate and are subject—naturally, by the strange laws of antique stores—to evaluations of their age, nationality, and market value, and reevaluations of their purpose. Among those in the show are artists Casey Bolding, Plum Cloutman, Brian Kokoska, Alessandro Miotti, Jack Pierson, and Chloe Wise; there are also pieces from the estate of John Boskovich. As an act of resistance, “Another Man’s Treasure” returns attention to the used, the found, the mundane. —Jimmy Lux Fox
