“Marley was dead …” So begins the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, his haunted night, and its immortal message. Jack Thorne’s stage adaptation of the Dickens classic, which premiered to raves at London’s Old Vic in 2017, is A Christmas Carol as we’ve never seen it before. Handbells, clog dancing, and carols, psychologically audacious, the production is immersive and inclusive. Thorne’s A Christmas Carol now comes to Broadway (news flash: two-time Tony Award-winner Andrea Martin plays the Ghost of Christmas Past). —L.J.
