On dating apps, everyone’s lying about something—and usually that something is their height. Does it really matter?

Dating is a cruel business, and one that can be particularly painful for those who feel too small — or too tall.

One in five dating app users lie about their height on their profile, according to a survey by Hily, an app with 1.5 million users in the UK.

Eighty-eight percent of respondents who lied about their height exaggerated it but 12 percent downplayed it.

It is not just a small adjustment. Those who lied were most likely to add two inches (33 percent), followed by one inch (30 percent). Some people even claimed to be taller by five inches or more (23 percent). READ ON
