Francis Mallmann, Argentina’s best-known chef—and the man behind Seven Fires, the cookbook that brought Patagonian live-fire cooking to the world—grew up in a house above Lago Moreno, outside Bariloche, where fire was part of everyday life. He now spends part of each year on La Isla, his private island on Lago La Plata, where he lives without electricity or modern distractions, reading, cooking, and listening to opera.
