Yayoi Kusama mania is real. At 92, the Japanese artist is among the world’s oldest, and yet her polka-dot masterpieces have made her a social-media star and an object of obsession among younger generations. A major exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art—the first ever Kusama retrospective in Israel, organized by Gropius Bau in collaboration with Studio Kusama—cuts through the hype. It takes a serious look at the artist’s work over 70 years, with 200 pieces ranging from drawing and painting to sculpture, cinema, and fashion. Four of Kusama’s mirrored “infinity rooms” round out the show. —J.V.
