Tri-Still Life

TRIADIC / Online / Art

As the philosopher Alain de Botton and the art historian John Armstrong said in their 2013 book Art as Therapy, “Art can offer a grand and serious vantage point from which to survey the travails of our condition.” Inspired by these words, Triadic founders Mafalda Millies, Lizzie Edelman and Roya Sachs have turned their attention to the still life—the steadfast object (or gathering of objects) that invites contemplation, and speaks to a time when life has been both slowed and stilled. For the project, more than 100 artists—including Shirin Neshat, Anna Weyant, and the Campana brothers—have been invited to contribute a still life. The results are wonderfully various. As Millies and Sachs reflect, “We hope to harness creativity to inspire our community, and, ultimately, find a way to connect through collective storytelling.” —E.C.
