 began her career as an enfant terrible of the Young British Art Movement\,
  and she has proved herself resilient. Born in the south London town of Cr
 oydon and raised in Margate\, Emin endured sexual violence as a young girl
 . Instead of repressing the trauma\, she used art to face it. Her breakthr
 ough arrived in 1999\, with the installation My Bed. A response to a broke
 n relationship\, it was an intimate and filthy mix of soiled sheets\, cond
 oms\, empty vodka bottles\, and a pair of pantyhose. Whatever life throws 
 at Emin—most recently\, she courageously faced extensive cancer surgery
 —art remains a sustaining practice. “With or without anger\, with or w
 ithout sadness or depression\, I have always been an artist\,” Emin has 
 said. “That’s the constant.” This exhibition at the Louisiana Museum
  examines how Emin’s work\, over the course of 40 years\, has used the f
 emale figure as a means of healing.
