London’s hosting of Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird is a long time coming. Originally slated for 2020—which marked the 60th anniversary of the publication of Harper Lee’s book—the play is just now gracing the Gielgud stage after a long coronavirus-related pause. Audiences will find it was well worth the wait. Starring Rafe Spall as Atticus Finch (the role Jeff Daniels originated on Broadway) and directed by the Tony-winning Bartlett Sher (who also directed in New York), the show offers an unflinching dissection of racial injustice in America, as laid out in the original Pulitzer Prize-winning text. —B.A.
