 Tim Walker was a photographer who conjured elaborate\, fantastical shoots 
 staged with over-the-top sets and improbable props. Since then\, he has ph
 otographed everyone from Lady Gaga and Frank Ocean to Chappell Roan\, Hunt
 er Schafer\, and Miriam Margolyes. For this exhibition at the National Por
 trait Gallery\, Walker spent five years photographing queer activists\, pe
 rformers\, artists\, and writers. His theme is “Fairyland\,” with its 
 intonations of both Victoriana and the flora and fauna of contemporary que
 erdom. The result is a celebration of queer identity and community embodie
 d in Walker’s unmistakable style: vivid\, inventive\, and not remotely i
 nterested in subtlety. “Your difference is your power\,” Walker has sa
 id. “It is a precious and beautiful thing.”
