The bad news is, J. K. Rowling’s new children’s story, The Ickabog, has nothing to do with Harry Potter. The good news? She started working on the story more than a decade ago, while she was still writing Harry Potter, so it’s likely that some of the magic has carried over. Targeted toward young readers (ages seven to nine) and available for free online, The Ickabog—which Rowling recently described as “a fairy tale, set in an imaginary land,” and a story about “truth and the abuse of power”—is being published in 34 installments, released every weekday, before being published in book form this fall. Rowling will donate the royalties from The Ickabog to various coronavirus-related causes. —J.V.
