A Monthly Culture Matrix For the Cosmopolitan Traveler

The Haystack

Hampstead Theatre / London / Stage

Neil and Zef are two 20-something geeks tethered to their computers all day, but not just any computers: they happen to be members of the U.K.’s National Defense Information Security Team. Cogs in a greater wheel? Perhaps, but after seeing deeper into the Intelligence rabbit hole, our protagonists begin to question the veracity of the very institution that has employed them. A thrilling story of espionage and ethics, The Haystack is a new piece of writing and the first full-length production by playwright and screenwriter Al Blyth (Fantastic Mr Fox, Reality, The Rook). It also marks Roxana Silbert’s directorial debut in her new role as Hampstead Theatre’s artistic director. —B.A.
