Sigmund Freud argued that jokes help us reveal ourselves in palatable, even pleasurable, ways. Comedian Sarah Silverman would likely agree. Her 2010 memoir, The Bedwetter, turns an embarrassing childhood spent “peeing on herself” into smart, if crude, comedy. In the book, Silverman follows each deftly landed punchline with a serious exploration of the good and bad sides of growing up with a great sense of humor. Now she’s taking her urine-soaked story to the stage in a world-premiere musical, a collaborative effort that includes indie-rocker Adam Schlesigner and playwright Joshua Harmon. —C.J.F.
