“What place do stories have in today’s climate of crisis?” the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker asks in The Antipodes. Baker’s reputation rests upon her unflappable grasp of contemporary language, and this time she slices into the banalities and contradictions of corporate speak. Six men and one woman—a ratio designed to echo traditional boardroom gender imbalances—sit in a conference room pitching ideas to their boss. But what’s the product? A Netflix series? A car commercial? A video game? It’s never revealed. The drama in this 115-minute, intermission-free production is in the idiosyncrasies and interplay of the characters. —Bridget Arsenault
