 lence along the U.S.–Mexico border. The rubble of houses abandoned after
  murders. The water used to wash crime scenes. The clothes of those who ha
 ve disappeared. The centerpiece of her first large-scale U.S. solo exhibit
 ion is La promesa (2012): 22 tons of debris from a home in Ciudad Juárez\
 , from which a family had to flee. Margolles dismantled it brick by brick 
 and rebuilt it in the gallery as a wall.
