DESCRIPTION:Nov 13\, 2026 - May 2\, 2027\nBorn in Paris in 1953\, Sophie Ca
lle transforms investigations into her own life and the lives of others in
to art. For more than 50 years\, she has followed strangers through the st
reets\, read private correspondence\, and photographed hotel rooms while t
heir occupants were away\, blurring the line between research and voyeuris
 m. Presenting Calle’s first solo exhibition in Berlin in more than 20 ye
ars\, the Hamburger Bahnhof is showing six bodies of work from the past th
ree decades. On view is “The Detachment” (1996)\, a series of 12 photo
graphs documenting sites in Berlin where symbols of East Germany were remo
ved after reunification\; the images are accompanied by recollections from
passersby. Also on display is Les fantômes d’Orsay (2022)\, a large-sc
ale installation inspired by the time Calle spent in an abandoned hotel in
side Paris’s former Gare d’Orsay\, which later became the Musée d’O
 rsay.
