“In essence,” says the photographer Marie Cecile Thijs, “I strive for a balance between dynamism and stillness.” Understated yet powerful, a Thijs portrait has the poise of a Vermeer. Objects are so vividly in focus they seem to be on the brink of coming alive. This solo show includes works from Thijs’s recent “Green Series,” which features uncannily human animals and plants, and also new work showcased for the first time. —E.C.
